What makes the picture frame design so unique?

The Picture Frame Design Water Weed Mat is made of the same long lasting poly fabric that our traditional Water Weed Mats are made from, so what is the difference. The new Picture Frame mat comes with all the components to assemble a frame made of our epoxy coated weights that installs completely around the outside edge of the mat, just like a picture frame. It stretches the mat to keep its square shape, maximizing all of the coverage area (over 260 square feet).  No other mat has this feature. We added one more weight across the middle for additional holding power.

Other mats can “Tent up” between the weights, not our NEW PFD Mat it holds its shape!

There is also no need to purchase, transport and cut to length additional weights. We ship our PFD Water Weed Mat with all the weights and connectors you need to assemble it. Many other mats DO NOT come with weights and they must be purchased separately.

Our mat frame also has rounded corners for added strength and they allow for attaching retrieval lines and warning buoy markers and it comes standard with gas ports to allow for any possible gas from decomposing weeds to escape. The PFD Water Weed Mat is made of a heavy duty woven fabric, not just a plastic sheet, so it allows water to pass through it. Walking on it is allowed but we always recommend wearing water shoes.

One person can deploy our mats just walk it out to where you want it and let it sink. No need to pull or tug to straighten it out because our picture frame design holds its shape.

This new mat can also be installed in late season weeds when they are there highest and it still holds its shape as it compresses the weeds.

A bottom screen or “benthic barrier”, covers the bottom of your lakefront, pond area or other water bottom like a blanket which smothers aquatic plants and blocks the sunlight which is required for the water weeds to grow.

The Water Weed Mat is made from a heavy-duty poly-fabric material and can last for many seasons if properly stored out of the water during off-season.

Using the weights that come with the “HD Picture Frame Design Water Weed Mat system”, or your own weights, will anchor the mat in place and reduce or block the light, preventing plants from growing into and under the fabric.

The “HD Picture Frame Design Water Weed Mat system” is easy to install.  Simply connect the weights using the weight connectors included with the “HD Picture Frame Design Water Weed Mat system”  ( or your own weights) and insert them into the weight tubes that are a part of the mat itself.

Once the weights are in place – you simply slide the mat into the water to the area you want to clear.

It usually takes about 4 weeks to clear the water bottom of unwanted weeds with the Water Weed Mat.   After that, the mat can be moved to other areas to increase your open water area.

In addition to eliminating seaweed and unwanted aquatic plants around docks and in swimming areas, benthic barriers like the Water Weed Mat, have become an important tool to help eradicate aquatic plants such as Eurasian water milfoil and Brazilian elodea where they are used.
